HOW TO type THE PESO sign ₱ on iPhone, Android, Word & computer (with Keyboard Shortcuts)

As travelers, one of the things we always keep track of is our budget. may it be before, during or after the trip, we normally list down our expenses to make sure we’re not spending way over our budget. and often, we do this on our computers or mobile devices. You’ll find a lot of travel guides with budget breakdowns on this blog.

One problem though is that keyboards in the Philippines are typically patterned after the us keyboards, thus having the dollar sign ($) as the default currency key. This makes typing ₱ tough so sometimes, we just opt to use PHP, PhP or simply P which could be confusing at times.

But typing ₱ is not as complicated as we thought because there are ways to easily do that on your computer or mobile devices. In this post, we’ll show you how.

iPhone (iOS)

If you’re an iphone user, typing ₱ is easy. You can also make it the default currency symbol on your keyboard. If you see $ on your keyboard when you go to the numbers and symbols, but not ₱, you can change it by setting your iPhone’s region to the Philippines. Here’s how you can do it:

On the next screen, find Language and Region.

Tap region and select Philippines.

This must make ₱ the default currency symbol on your keyboard. once you’ve set your iPhone’s region to the Philippines, all you have to do is go to the numbers and symbols on your keyboard and the peso sign must appear ideal away.

If you do not wish to change the region setting of your iPhone, you may add Filipino as a language on your keyboard to make ₱ one of the currency symbol options on your keyboard. Itt van, hogyan:

The Russian ruble sign is one of the default currency symbol options on iphone and is often mistaken by some as the peso sign.

Android

Typing the Philippine peso sign on an android device is simple. If your device’s region is set to the Philippines, the peso sign would be the default currency symbol on your keyboard. If your default currency symbol is not the peso sign and you want to change it, you can follow these steps:

Go to the settings on your device.

Find the System settings and click to select.

Click Language and Input, then go to Language and Region.

Tap region and select Philippines.

This must change the default currency symbol on your keyboard to ₱.

If your device’s region is not set to the Philippines and you do not wish to change it, there’s another way to have the peso sign on your keyboard. Itt van, hogyan:

Go to your Keyboard settings and go to Languages.

Add Filipino to your keyboard’s languages.

This would make ₱ as one of the currency symbol options on your keyboard. To enter it, simply press on hold the default symbol on your keyboard. A few currency symbol options will appear. Hover to ₱ to select.

Windows (Laptop / Desktop)

You can type ₱ on your windows desktop or laptop computer by doing any of the following keyboard shortcuts:

Hold the ALT key, then press 8369. That’s ALT + 8369.

Type 20B1 (Second digit is zero) then press ALT and X at the same time. That’s 20B1 + ALT and X.

You can also use the character map. Here’s how you can do it:

On the search box located on the task bar, type character Map.

Click character Map to open the app.

Tick the box beside development view.

A search bar would appear below. type peso and click Search.

Click ₱ to select then, click Copy.

Paste it to the paper or file you’re working on.

Mac (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac)

When using your Mac, you may use the character customer to type in the peso sign. Itt van, hogyan:

Whatever app you’re using, on the top menu bar, click Edit.

On the drop down menu, click Emoji & Symbols. This must open the character Viewer. another way is to press Ctrl + Command + Space. The character customer must appear.

Find the ₱ symbol and click to select. You may type the word “peso” on the search bar of the customer to find it easily.

If you’re not liking how that peso sign looks, you can find other versions of it (italic, bold, serif, sans-serif, etc) by clicking the menu button in the upper ideal corner of the window. It will reveal a lot more symbols, categorized by type.

You may click the Currency symbols on the sidebar or type PESO on the sidebar. click on the peso sign, and the available font variations of the peso sign will appear. double click your preFerred betűkészlet -variáció. Ennek be kell írnia a beírott papírra vagy fájlba.

Microsoft Word

A peso -ról

Amikor ezt a malajziai utat terveztem, az egyetlen dolog, amiben biztos voltam, az volt, hogy a Penang -i George Town -ra akartam lépni. Órákat töltöttem a szállodai szobában, online dolgozva. A 21:00 volt, amikor mindent elkészítettem. Még mindig szitáló volt, de csak szoptam, és tovább sétáltam a városban

Kapitan Keling mecset

A Kapitan Keling mecset a város legnagyobb mecsetje. Ez a krémszínű mecset Mughal stílusú kupolákkal, Madrasah-val és egy minaret-rel, amely a hely legparancsnokos része volt. A 19. században épült, a hely egy egyszerű egyszintes épületként indult, de később úgy fejlesztette ki, hogy most sokkal több szobát és díszítést ad az évszázadok során. Sajnos nem tudtam bemenni, mert csak 17:00 óráig volt nyitva a látogatók számára, de lehetőségem volt beszélni néhány olyan helyiekkel, akik itt imádnak, és arra ösztönöztek minket, hogy másnap reggel visszatérjünk, amit nem tettem.

A stunning chandelier drips from the highest ceiling, which rises to the largest onion-shaped dome, encircled by calligraphy panels and stained glass windows featuring the star of David. Arabesques of geometric designs and floral motifs are found throughout the mosque, whose marble floors are lined with long rows of prayer rugs. From dawn to dusk you can see the faithful prostrating themselves after cleansing at the ablution pool or enjoying quiet thoughts within the peaceful complex. much more here.

I will certainly come back to this place the next time I’m in Penang.

Arulmigu Sri Mahamariamman Temple

The Arulmigu Sri Mahamariamman Temple, or simply Sri Mahamariamman Temple, is the oldest Hindu temple in Penang. Early Tamil Indians who arrived in the island to trade settled in George town and built a place for them to practice their religion. like the Kapitan Keling Mosque, it was originally a very easy structure, which was later enlarged. The land where the shrine stood was given in 1801 by the British to a certain Betty Lingam Chetty, many probably the village’s kapitan or community leader. The shrine was expanded into a temple in 1833, which is now officially considered the year it was founded. Guests are welcome to enter the temple from 6:30 am to 12 noon, and from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Gurney Drive Hawker Center

Gurney Drive is known for its promenade and is typically dubbed the “New Esplanade” of the city. yes it provides a good place to unwind with a terrific view of the sea and the George town skyline, but what many tourists check out this for is the food! The Gurney Drive Hawker center serves a rich smorgasbord of Southeast Asian street foods among others. thank heavens the place was still open even late at night.

Penang laksa is probably the most popular dish here but because I was not in the mood for soup at the time (and I’m not really a laksa or curry fan), I had a wonderful task of digging in to some other local favorites.

Fried Oysters (or much more appropriately, fried oysters omelette) and Otak-otak (A sort of grilled cake made of fish and spices, wrapped in banana leaf)
Chee Cheong Fun. flat rice flour sheets are rolled, steamed, chopped, and then topped with sweet sauce and sesame seeds.

The next morning, I took advantage of the little time I have to walk around the block where our hostel, the Old Penang Guesthouse, is located. While I had always known that the name of our street was called love Lane, it was only then that I found out why.

The sign reads, “WHERE’S MY HUSBAND? The local Chinese say the richmen who lived on Muntri street kept their mistresses here, thus the name Sai Cheng Hang or love Lane.”

That was a really interesting bit of information. regardless of its past, love Lane today hosts several guesthouses that backpackers looooove. és miért nem? The location is excellent. The service is commendable. and it is actually a very picturesque corner of Georgetown. much love in this street!

At around 6am, our shuttle service arrived, putting an unfortunate close to my very short stay in Penang. If only I had planned this trip a little bit better and worked a little faster. but you know what they say, no need to cry over spilt milk. All I had to do was relocation on. and I did. To Cameron Highlands.

BAGAN ON A BUDGET: travel guide & itinerary

three words and I was sold: hot air balloons.

A simple mention of Bagan conjures up an image of hot air balloons floating above an ocean of temples at dawn. If that wasn’t enough to convince me to someday pay a visit, I don’t know what could. even when I had to endure a total of 10 hours on the plane (I was flying from Dubai) and another eight hours on the bus from Yangon, I was a happy traveler. too bad, there were no hot air balloons when I arrived because, uhm, I didn’t plan this trip well. (And you should learn from me. That’s why I’m creating this guide. LOL.)

Still, I was not complaining. Bagan may be smack at the heart of a vast, almost barren land, but it is brimming with beauty, there’s hardly any place for disappointment.

Understanding Bagan

Shading the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River, the ancient city of Bagan in Myanmar’s Mandalay region is located 688km northwest of Yangon. Bagan was once home to over 10,000 Buddhist structures, built during the reign of the Kingdom of Pagan from the 9th-13th centuries, scattered throughout the 42 sq. km plain. Today, however, only 2200 of these stupas and pagodas remain standing, making up what is now called the Bagan Archaeological Zone.

Most visitors could not help comparing it to Cambodia’s famous Angkor site. Both harbor countless Buddhist monuments spread across hectares and hectares of land. but the similarities stop there. Angkor is tucked in a rainforest; Bagan rises above an arid, desert-like territory. Angkor’s spires resemble corncobs, tall and slender; Bagan’s look like pineapples and ice cream cones, wider and rounder. Angkor’s temples are grander and more ornate; Bagan’s are smaller and simpler. but what Bagan can’t deliver in size, it makes up for in volume. Bagan is considered the largest and densest collection of Buddhist ruins in the world.

Myanmar is predominantly Buddhist and the whole Bagan site is sacred to them, hence there are rules in place. most importantly, if you’re entering temples or monasteries:

Cover your knees and shoulders. Tees are okay. Shorts are okay as long as they cover knees.

Remove your shoes. and your socks, while you’re at it.

Locals are very non-confrontational that they don’t usually call out visitors even when their behavior offends them. Still, it shouldn’t be an excuse to disrespect their culture. always follow the rules especially when entering temples and monasteries. Locals are very friendly and helpful. even when they don’t understand English, they just smile and point you to someone who does. Let’s show them some respect.

The official currency is the Kyat, typically shortened as MMK or Ks.

Best Time to check out Bagan

For many, the relatively amazing months of November to January are the best time to check out Bagan. It isn’t that hot, the skies are clear (perfect for wide landscape shots of the stupas), and hot air balloon companies are operational. However, this is also the peak season, so expect to share the sites with hordes of other tourists.

Bagan is situated in what many regard as Myanmar’s driest region. It is generally hot year-round, but March-April temperatures can be brutal, sometimes playing around 43 degrees Celsius. exploring is unbearable.

August and September are months to stay away from too. These are the wettest months and the peak of the monsoon season. June, July, and October are also monsoon months, but they are generally okay. A bit risky because of the chance of rain, but it is after the rain that the temples are best photographed, when there’s no dust to muddle the view and colors are more vivid. prices are also at their lowest.

If you’re after hot air ballooning (like I was), check out between mid-October and mid-March. Don’t make the mistake of not researching before your trip (like I did).

How to get to Bagan from Yangon

Nyaung U airport is the closest air gateway to Bagan, but it is not directly connected to any city abroad. It serves flights to and from Yangon, Mandalay, and a few other domestic destinations. If you’re coming from another country, you’re most likely to enter the country via Yangon because it has Myanmar’s most connected airport. below is a list of cities that you can fly to or from Yangon (as of July 2016)

From Yangon Airport, you may reach Bagan by any of the following:

Repülővel. You may simply take another flight to Nyaung U Airport. (Lowest roundtrip fare is around 200 USD.) From the airport, you may travel to new Bagan by automobile for 7000 to 10,000 kyat.

Busszal. At the Aung Mingalar Bus station in Yangon, board a bus to Bagan Nyaung U. regular rates range from 12.9 to 17.22 USD, depending on the schedule and carry company. If you want to get comfortable, book a seat on a VIP bus, which is somewhere between 17.49 and 19.99 USD. We highly recommend this because there isn’t much difference in the rates but a lot in comfort. The VIP seats actually feel like business class on a plane: with refreshment, movies onboard, a blanket, reclining seats and substantial leg room. travel time is roughtly 8 hours. check the bus schedule or book on this website.
From the Bagan Shwe Pyi highway Bus Terminal, you may hail a cab to new Bagan for 7000 MMK.

Vonattal. catch Train No. 61, set to leave Yangon at 4pm and reach Bagan at 10am the next day. The ticket costs 4500 MMK (4 USD) for an common seat; 12,000 Ks (12 USD) for an upper class seat; or 16,500 MMK (17USD) for an upper class sleeper.

Whatever your mode of transportation, you will need to pay the mandatory USD 20 (MMK 25,000) Bagan tourism fee. It is good for 5 days. Do not lose your ticket. tourism authorities are roaming the site and they’ll check if you already paid the tourism fee every now and then.

Where to stay in Bagan

There are three areas where you can stay: Old Bagan, new Bagan, and Nyaung U. Which to choose depends on your budget.

Nyaung U is where most budget travelers choose to dwell because of the many low-cost lodging and dining options. It is the liveliest and can offer a peek into the way the locals’ way of life. Markets are also within the area.

New Bagan is where budget to mid-range hotels and hostels are located. There’s not much to see here, to be honest, save for some restaurants.

Old Bagan may sound like the best place to spend the night but it harbors the most expensive hotels and resorts. If you want to avoid hurting your wallet, this is not the place for you.

Due to availability, we stayed in a 4-bed dorm at Ostelo Bello Bagan (Kayay St, new Bagan). It was a pleasant stay: friendly staff, homey feel, clean shared bathroom, complimentary breakfast, and unlimited coffee. I paid $22.5 per night, not the cheapest in Bagan’s growing list of boutique hostels.

Getting around Bagan

Chances are, you’re interested to set foot here to see its thousands of temples. but there are many ways to experience this extraordinary site.

Biciklivel. Still the cheapest way to get around. Make sure you pick one that is in good condition. 1000-2000 MMK (1-2 USD).

Whatever you choose, don’t forget to catch the sunrise and the sunset. You’ll never regret it.

Temples to See

Bagan can be pretty daunting. We started our journey lost. We got a map early on and assumed that since the key temples were marked, it would be easy to find them. but not all the pagodas and stupas are on the map. While you’re at one, you can already see the next and the one next to it. It’s easy to get lost, confuse one with another. There are over 2000 structures and they were not created equal.

Tips for the poor Traveler

Bring a liter of water when exploring. Don’t get dehydrated. While there are sellers in major temples, you might need to drink while still on the way to your next stop. There are also refilling stations at some sites.

Bring a dust mask. It can get really dusty!

Wear slip-on shoes or slippers. I still prefer wearing a good pair of rubber shoes especially when biking, but most of our companions found a pair of slippers more convenient because you will need to remove them at every temple you’re gonna enter.

Buy a tourist SIM at the airport. You may also get a Ooredoo SIM with 10MB data for 1500Ks. You can then simply top up depending on your browsing habit, but the price is 1000Ks per 100MB. If you’re a heavy data user, MPT offers a tourist SIM that costs 10,000Ks and it comes with a 1.5G data allowance. It’s valid for 10 days.

Make a sidetrip to Mandalay. Mandalay is a few hours away from Bagan. You might also want to spend a day or two or more here.

Things to watch Out For

Scams. The locals are generally friendly and lovely, but like many other destinations, Bagan has its share of scammers. You’ll find locals (often children) approaching tourists to ask for a foreign currency note to add to their collection, to sell them fake gemstones, or to insist to tour them around. just say no politely. They are hard to shake off sometimes, but just keep on refusing.

Paying for the entrance fee more than once. If you have already paid it as you enter the town, don’t pay again when you’re getting into the temples. The fee should cover the entire Bagan Archaeological zone and is good for five days.
